MANCHESTER, NH – An act of kindness ended all wrong, after two people were injured in a freak accident that began with a dead battery in a drug store parking lot, and ended with a crash into the Mill West wrought iron fence.

According to Manchester Police a passer-by stopped to help Comfort Opgah, 57, after her car battery died in the Rite Aid parking lot, 122 McGregor Street.

Once the battery was jump-started, Opgah held down the gas pedal to rev-up the engine, but accidentally shifted the car into drive causing her vehicle to speed out of the parking lot traveling easterly. Her vehicle hopped the median and crashed into the wrought iron fence and granite pillar across the street at The Lofts at Mill West.

Both the fence and Opgah’s 1999 Dodge Durango sustained heavy damage. Firefighters had to cut both Opgah and her passenger from the wreckage after they became trapped inside the vehicle.

Opgah was transported to Catholic Medical Center for a fractured right leg and shoulder. Opgah’s adult passenger was also transported to the hospital as a precautionary measure.
