MANCHESTER, NH –  Intown Manchester is proud to announce two public art projects to the Queen City supported and unanimously voted in by the Board of Mayor and Alderman on July 17th.  To kick this off,  abstract artist Keith Trahan will transform the center median on Canal Street with bursts of color.  Intown will be working closely with Trahan to create this one of a kind piece of art. “Intown and the City of Manchester is opening the door to many local artists by embracing projects like this. When one public art projects happens, another one follows”, says Manchester Artist Keith Trahan.

“Public art helps build a sense of community,” said Mayor Joyce Craig. “Both of these projects will highlight the work of local artists and continue the city’s quest to celebrate our culture and diversity. I’m thankful for all the work Intown Manchester has done to make Manchester a more welcoming, attractive and colorful place.” The work will begin the week of August 6th. ‘We want to create synergy between the Millyard and the Downtown- connecting the two with art, which we hope will continue year after year, median after median”, says Sara Beaudry of Intown.

The second project by Michelle Hanley, owner of 1138 Elm Street, is a commissioned piece.  The side of the Lamont Hanley and Associates building was once adorned by large green diamonds, done many years ago by the building owners Joseph L. Lamont and John ‘Jack’ Hanley.  As tribute to the former owners, there will be small aspects of their favorite hobbies incorporated into the mural which will try to capture the essence of nature in downtown.

“We are honored and thrilled to be working with Michelle Hanley and REI on this major mural”, says Intown’s Executive Director, Sara Beaudry. What better way to enter downtown then with original art for all to view. At Intown we envision a vibrant city, community and neighborhood. Working with local artists, business owners and the city of Manchester this mural will be an impactful way to add to the beauty of our city,” says Beaudry. A great friend of mine once said “Public art is a sign of a healthy community”. We could not agree more. We are currently looking for a New Hampshire Mural Artist to create the mural on 1138 Elm Street. For more information on how to apply please contact Sara Beaudry at sbeaudry@intownmanchester.com<mailto:sbeaudry@intownmanchester.com> or call 603-645-6285.
