MANCHESTER, NH — Families in Transition (FIT), an outreach to the homeless based in Manchester, Concord, and Dover, raised more than $75,000 at a recent 25th Anniversary Celebration in Hooksett. Money raised at the event will be used toward providing housing and social services to homeless families and individuals. In addition, awards were given to volunteers of the year, and the Maureen A. Beauregard Scholarship recipient.

“Going from housing five women and their children in Manchester to now, twenty-five years later, FIT has 20 properties, over 200 housing units, in three difference cities, is just amazing,” said FIT Founder and President, Maureen Beauregard. “It’s powerful to know that we’ve helped provide housing and core services to over 3,000 people over these years. Getting people up and out of homelessness is what we’ve been doing and will continue to do.”

Since 1991, more than 250,000 hours have been donated by thousands of dedicated volunteers to the agency and the organizations OutFITters Thrift Stores. During the June 1 event, awards were given for the 2015 volunteers of the year, in the following categories:

  • Youth Volunteer of the Year – Emily Lawrence of Bedford;
  • Group Volunteer of the Year – National Charity League;
  • School Group of the Year – Southern New Hampshire University;
  • Volunteer of the Year – Ann Marie Finn of Londonderry, NH.

In addition, the Maureen A. Beauregard Scholarship was awarded to Melisa Hanks. Annually, the scholarship is given to a current FIT participant or alumni member to help cover educational costs. Ms. Hanks will use it toward the pursuit of a degree in Early Childhood Education at Manchester Community College.

Sponsors of the event include: Cityside Corporation and the Dolloff Family, Comcast, Spectrum Marketing Companies, AutoFair Automotive Group, INSP, Dartmouth-Hitchcock, Cross Insurance, Catholic Medical Center, Lincoln Financial Group, Great Bridge Properties, NH Healthy Families, Sheehan Phinney, and SweetShot Photography.
