BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – There was only one run in Wednesday night’s contest between the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and the Fisher Cats were the ones that got it.

Christian Williams’ first pitch single in the fourth brought home that winning and only run in the form of Chad Spanberger.

That hit was one of only ten from both teams all night, but the second in a row following Kevin Smith’s line drive single to left that put Spanberger into scoring position.

Williams’ hit was also the only one by either team with a runner in scoring position, but the Fisher Cats’ offensive problems were outweighed on this night by five masterful innings from New Hampshire starting pitcher Yennsy Diaz and another four from New Hampshire’s relievers.

Dany Jimenez’ fourth save of the year capped off a brilliant night on the mound begun by Diaz, who climbed to 9-8 on the year with the win.

David Peterson was the loser for Binghamton, pitching 5 2/3 innings in the loss, walking three and striking out three.

The series concludes on Thursday as Nate Pearson (0-4, 2.84 ERA) takes the mound for New Hampshire at 6:35 p.m. against Binghamton’s Tommy Wilson.
