MANCHESTER, NH – Officers responded to 80 Lowell Street at 2:40 a.m. on Nov. 8 for a call involving smoke in the building. The call for service originated from smoke caused by a burnt item located inside an oven. Firefighters cleared the building and discovered a deceased ferret inside of an oven.

The two people who rented the apartment advised police of a female roommate who had already vacated the apartment. They said their temporary guest was standing outside of the apartment building along with other displaced tenants.

Officer Michael DeJoy and Officer Brianna Miano located and arrested Ivana Clifford, 26, of Manchester, outside of the apartment building after speaking with the owners of the dead ferret. The officers gathered enough probable cause to arrest Clifford who was charged with one count animal cruelty.

Clifford was scheduled to appear in Hillsborough County Superior Court-North on November 8, 2017.
