MANCHESTER, NH — A smoldering chair inside a four-story multi-unit apartment building brought fire crews to Granite Court early Sunday morning.

At about 12:36 a.m. crews arrived at 472 Granite St. for smoke and fire reported inside the building. A tenant notified personnel that theo fire was on the first floor of the southeast corner of the building, Apt. 3.

Prior to firefighters arrival a maintenance man had tried using dry chemical extinguishers through a window, however they failed from the heat.

Crews from Truck 1 were able to knock down the fire, coming from a smoldering chair. Companies remained on scene clearing smoke from the building. The fire was held to the apartment of origin. Damage was estimated at $20,000. One resident was displaced.

The fire is under investigation.
