Hungry like the Seawolves…..

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The rain couldn’t stop the New Hampshire Fisher Cats for a second straight day, as they split their Sunday doubleheader with the visiting Erie SeaWolves.

In the day’s first contest, a make-up for the rained-out contest between the two teams on Friday, New Hampshire vanished Erie, 7-2.

Both teams ended the truncated seven-inning affair with seven hits each, but New Hampshire made them count, with rallies in the third and fourth and a crucial two-run homer from Gunnar Heidt in the second to set the game’s tone.

Erie would end the contest just one-for-nine with men in scoring position, emblematic of the difference between the two squad’s fortunes as New Hampshire connected on half (4-for-8) of their chances with a runner either on second and or third.

At the plate, Danny Woodroow and Willi Castro each grabbed a pair of hits for the Wolves while Bo Bichette led the ‘Cats with a 2-for-4 outing. Along with Heidt’s homer, Cavan Biggio also contributed a pair of RBI in the win.

Josh DeGraaf evened his record to 5-5 with the victory, scattering those seven hits over five innings of work while the loss went to Alex Faeda.

Now 1-3 on the Eastern League season, Faeda left after two outs in the third, allowing two earned runs off three hits and a walk, striking out four and watching two unearned runs cross the plate on his watch.

Erie turned the tables in the second game of the doubleheader, winning 8-1.

New Hampshire’s only run came off a Biggio double in the first, bringing Bichette around to score.

Erie slowly built a 2-1 lead by the end of the fourth, putting the game out of reach following an explosive sixth inning.

There, the first four Wolves batters reached base safely, with ten batters heading to the plate before all was said and done.

The first eight batters of the inning faced New Hampshire’s Danny Young, who left after a two-run Castro triple.

Offensively, Dominic Ficociello led the Wolves in the second game, going 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Josh Thole also drove in a pair of runs in the win.

For New Hampshire, Biggio and Harold Ramirez each collected two hits.

Both starting pitchers went five innings, with Hector Perez falling in his New Hampshire debut and A.J. Ladwing climbing to 3-0 since joining the Wolves in mid-July.

The series concludes on Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 1:35 p.m.
