F-Cats cannot convert opportunities in Reading

Reading Fightin PhilsREADING, Pa. – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats hit a woeful 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position on Tuesday night, falling 5-2 to the Reading Fightin’ Phils.

Bo Bichette came across for New Hampshire’s first run, a third inning score following his sixth triple of the year. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. added a double later in the inning, but was left stranded, one of 10 runners left on base during the evening by New Hampshire.

Reading bounced back with five straight two-out hits in the fifth, culminating with a three-run blast by Damek Tomscha.

Eduard Pinto would bring home Juan Kelly half an inning later for New Hampshire, but that would be the final tally for the New Hampshire, despite coming close in the eighth and ninth.

T.J. Zeuch left after five innings of work, striking out six Reading batters and allowing seven hits.

Zeuch fell to 6-4 while Reading’s Tyler Viza earned his first Eastern League win of the year for his 5 2/3 inning performance.

Jeff Singer earned his seventh save of the year after recording three outs in the ninth.

At the plate, New Hampshire’s Juan Kelly and Adam Haseley each led the way with three hits each, with Bichette and Harold Ramirez grabbing two hits each for the Fisher Cats and Cornelius Randolph going 2-for-4 for Reading.

The series concludes tomorrow as New Hampshire lefthander Tyler Salcedo (2-1, 4.86 ERA) takes on Reading’s Ranfi Camamiro (4-2, 5.18 ERA) for a 12:15 p.m. contest.
