In making the announcement, Stewart said his passion for the city, coupled with his professional economic development experience and his volunteer activities in the city and in Ward 2 would provide a unique perspective on the aldermanic board.

“One of the city’s main challenges, I think, is one of  unmet potential. We have so much going for us. And yet we haven’t been able to truly capitalize on the potential,” Stewart said.

“As a result, I’m hearing from more and more families that they are considering moving out of the city, citing concerns about city schools as well as crime, and an overall lack of focus on the things that make a city a place people want to live.”

In his years in Manchester, Stewart has worked as a newspaper reporter for The Hippo, as community services specialist for NeighborWorks Southern New Hampshire, and as the Vice President of Economic Development and Advocacy at the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. He currently serves as the President of the Greater Derry Londonderry Chamber of Commerce.

In a volunteer capacity, Stewart serves as the Captain of the Oak Park Neighborhood Watch; as the Chair of Bike Manchester; as a Manchester Transit Authority Commissioner, and as a member of the Friends of Wagner Memorial (Pretty) Park Board of Directors. He is also the author of the recently published book, “An Insider’s Guide to Manchester.”

Stewart said if elected he will focus on constituent services, advancing the city’s economic development prospects, and promoting quality-of-life issues.

A Manchester resident since 2004, and a Ward 2 resident since 2008, Stewart is married to Michelle Shelton. They have one son, Zeke, a student at Smyth Road School.
