AKRON, Ohio – The New Hampshire Fisher Cats couldn’t leave Ohio with a sweep, falling 6-5 against the Akron Rubber Ducks on Thursday afternoon.

New Hampshire took lead in the first in what would begin a see-saw battle where they would have to retake the lead again in the third and fifth.

However, they couldn’t retake it a third time, with Andrew Monasterio’s RBI single spearheading a two-run rally in the bottom of the fifth for the ‘Ducks.

That final push held up for Akron as ‘Ducks starter Jake Paulson stranded a man in the sixth, with Kyle Dowdy shutting down the Fisher Cats in the seventh and eighth and Dalbert Siri throwing a perfect ninth to earn his eighth save of the year.

Paulson (9-7) was the winner, scattering 10 hits and seeing all five of New Hampshire’s runs over his six innings, with three of them earned.

The loss went to William Ouellette (1-2), with Ouellette allowing three runs off five hits and a walk over the third, fourth and part of the fifth innings.

At the plate, each team had 11 hits apiece.

For New Hampshire, Riley Adams had three while Nash Knight, Brock Lundquist and Forrest Wall had two each. Adams and Santiago Espinal also went deep for the ‘Cats.

Akron got a big day from Mitch Longo, who went 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Nellie Rodriguez and Ernie Clement each also contributed two hits each, with Nolan Jones adding a homer in the first.

The Fisher Cats now head to Erie for a series with the Sea Wolves. Friday’s first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
