MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Akron Rubber Ducks boarded their buses for Maine this afternoon, and got to take a win with them on the way out of Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Despite being outhit 10-9, Akron defeated the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Thursday, 5-1.

New Hampshire’s sole run came in the third, a line-drive single by Kevin Smith to left that brought Josh Palacios.

That cut Akron’s lead in half, but the Fisher Cats were unable to string together anything else, but Smith squandering what was probably New Hampshire’s best chance after the third, popping out to strand two and retire the side in the fifth.

Akron added three more runs in the eighth to pad their lead, with Connor Marabell bringing Ernie Clemens home on a grounder that escaped the infield and Trenton Brooks scoring on a Nellie Rodriguez sacrifice fly.

Alex Cali and Nolan Jones accumulated both of Akron’s earlier RBI.

At the plate for New Hampshire, Christian Williams went 3-for-4 while Riley Adams also added a pair of singles.

Thomas Hatch dropped his second start as a Fisher Cat, giving up four hits and two hits over 5 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out six.

Tanner Tully was the winner, climbing to 7-9 in Eastern League play this year. Tully allowed eight hits, but only the one run in the third, also credited with a walk and a strikeout in the process.

The Fisher Cats now welcome in the Erie SeaWolves for a three-game set, with Yennsy Diaz (8-7, 4.15 ERA) taking the mound on Friday at 7:05 p.m. against Erie’s Matt Manning (9-4, 2.71 ERA).
