Driver charged with DUI after crash at Beech and Orange streets

MANCHESTER, NH — On Thursday, March 29, 2018, at approximately 5:44 p.m., officers of the Manchester Police Department responded to the area of Beech Street at Orange Street. in reference to a serious motor vehicle crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the at-fault driver, identified as Michael Bennett, 24, from Pembroke, was traveling west on Orange Street, and failed to stop at the stop sign posted at the intersection of Orange/Beech St.

Bennett’s Jeep Cherokee struck a Pontiac Grand AM travelling South on Beech Street and caused it to spin out and flip over in the front yard of 646 Beech St. The driver of the Pontiac, Philip Stamas, 22, from Canterbury, was extracted from the vehicle by the Manchester Fire Dept.

While on scene, indicators were present which led officers to believe that Bennett was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals with unspecified injuries.

Bennett was arrested at the hospital and charged with felony operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol and felony operation after suspension.

Information pertaining to bail and future court proceedings was not immediately available.
