Domestic call results in stolen gun charge

MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Officers responded to a domestic disturbance at 127 Orange St. at 11 a.m. on August 13. They met with a 24-year-old woman inside of the apartment. The woman had sustained a laceration and bruising on her arms as a result of the domestic altercation with her ex-boyfriend, Christian Cherry, 33 also of 127 Orange St.

According to the police report, Cherry allegedly pushed the woman during a heated argument inside their living room over the purchase of a vehicle. The woman’s aunt watched the woman and Cherry enter a bedroom where the altercation continued. The woman’s aunt pushed the door open to in an effort to thwart the violence. She noticed Cherry and the victim wrestling over a handgun, so she backed out of the bedroom and started gathering up the children in the home, including the couple’s six-month-old infant.

The woman allegedly exited the bedroom and ran toward the living room. Cherry allegedly followed her while holding a small handgun in his hand.  Cherry allegedly walked back into the bedroom almost as quickly as he exited, before vacating the apartment. Officer Adam Beland located him in front of the residence a short time after arriving on scene. Cherry was taken into custody without incident.

The responding officers were informed that two handguns were inside of the bedroom belonging to Cherry, so detectives were granted a search warrant. The warrant was executed and they documented two handguns inside of the bedroom: a .380 handgun and a .40 caliber handgun. Cherry was initially charged with simple assault and two counts felon in possession of a firearm (Cherry was convicted of several felonies in January 31, 2012). He was also charged with receiving stolen property for the .380 handgun, which was stolen from a Manchester address on June 15, 2016. Cherry appeared in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on August 15, 2016.
