District sets up temporary school for Jewett Street students at the Boys & Girls Club

MANCHESTER, NH — After a day of mitigation school officials have created a plan for the next two or three days while the Jewett Street Elementary School building remains closed due to a burst pipe and flooding. The issues were discovered Monday morning, forcing school officials to cancel school and move teachers to other buildings for professional development.

Parents were notified Monday afternoon that Jewett Street School students should prepare to attend classes set up at the Boys and Girls Club, 555 Union St., until further notice. Transportation will be provided. There will be no preschool classes until school resumes at Jewett Street, according to Assistant Superintendent Jenn Gillis.
Procedures for a.m. and p.m.
Morning:
Children will be transported from Southside Middle School. Jewett Street School students should walk to school or be dropped off in the back parking lot at 8:30 a.m. They will be escorted by staff into the gym supervised until they
travel with their classmates and teachers by bus to the Boys and Girls Club.  Additional staff will be on hand to assist
with boarding the buses at Southside and with arrival at the Boys and Girls Club.
Note: If your child attends YMCA before school program, please drop your student off at the YMCA and the YMCA
will transport your student to the Boys and Girls Club where they will be greeted by Manchester School District Staff.
If your child rides the STS or CTS bus they will pick your student up at home and bring them directly to the Boys and
Girls Club where they will be greeted by Manchester School District Staff.
Afterschool: 
Students will be dismissed at 2:50 p.m. and brought back to Southside Middle School where additional staff will be
on hand to assist.  Parents who are waiting for their students should wait along Jewett Street or in the back parking
lot at Southside.
Afterschool program transport will pick students up at Southside Middle School and bring students to their normal
locations.  Students who attend the Boys and Girls Club afterschool program will remain at the Boys and Girls Club
for their normal afterschool program.  If your child rides the STS or CTS bus in the afternoon,  they will be picked up
at the Boys and Girls Club and brought home.
What do I do if my child is late for the 8:30 a.m. departure at Southside? 
They will need to be dropped off directly at the Boys and Girls Club
What do I need to do to pick up my child prior to 2:30 p.m.? 
You will need to pick them up at the Boys and Girls Club. Identification will be required and Mrs. Boucher will be there in the main lobby.   
Will there be crossing guards?
Yes, Jewett crossing guards have been moved down to Southside to cover the normal a.m. and p.m. drop-offs and pick-ups.
Breakfast/Lunch
District food services department will be bringing breakfast and lunch to the Boys/Girls Club.
Nurse
The school nurse will be on-site at the Boys and Girls Club and will be bringing items required from the school.
