MANCHESTER, NH – Dennis James Dewyngaert, 66, was a superhero, storyteller, and owner of several mugs declaring him to be the “Best Dad in the World.” He passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer.
Dennis was a devoted husband to his wife June (Kantargis) Dewyngaert. They met at Nashua High School and were committed to one another’s happiness for 45 years. He leaves two children – a daughter, Stacey Baker and her husband Jeff of Goffstown, and a son, James Dewyngaert and his wife Kristin (Winer) of Manchester. He was the adoring Papa to their son, Jacob James. He also leaves two brothers, Ronald and Thomas, their families, and dozens of relatives and close friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gaston Albert Dewyngaert and Stella Rose Cantin, and his brother, Daniel.
Aside from a loving husband and father, Dennis will be remembered as an avid woodworker and a meticulous craftsman. He worked as a machinist by trade, but his real love was creation. He could build anything. Anything! There was nothing he could not produce with some molding, some patience, and access to the lumber yard. Christmas ornaments, fine furniture, camping trailers, entire living rooms…at your service. He also taught himself to tie beautiful fishing flies, was an outdoorsman who liked to target shoot with friends, and would occasionally swear at the TV during a NASCAR race, a Storage Wars episode, or a Patriots game. He will be missed most for his stories. The memories he shared about jobs he had, traveling (although sadly, never to space), big fish he caught (or pretended to), and feats of endurance in the mountains, were the most cherished times spent with him.
There are no calling hours, but a private celebration of Dennis’ life will be hosted by his family this summer. To honor his memory, his family asks that when you pass a river, comment on the number of fish that must be in it. Turn your television volume up to 27 and complain you can’t hear it. Wave or wear the American flag with pride. Rock out to “Whipped Cream” by Herb Alpert, and then be “off like a herd of turtles.” He’ll smile down on you, we promise.
