MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police Officer Brian O’Keefe reports that on Tuesday a teacher heard what is believed to be gunfire coming from a wooded area near McLaughlin Middle School, 290 S. Mammoth Rd.
O’Keefe says a teacher alerted the School Resource Officer shortly after noon of possible gunshots in a wooded area behind McLaughlin Middle School.
Several officers responded and checked the area but found nothing. O’Keefe said police units responded on September 25, 2018 to a similar call and NH Fish and Game removed a tree stand used by hunters as a result of that call.
The area behind the school is frequented by hunters as evidence by the tree stand. Officers continue to check the area.
According to NH hunting law (RSA 207: 3-a & 644:13), “A firearm may not be discharged within 300 feet of any commercial, educational or medical building, or outdoor public gathering place.”
This is the second day in a row that gunfire was reported coming from woodsy areas near city schools. On Oct. 22 police were dispatched to Gossler Park Elementary School after someone reportedly shot at students using a BB gun. A school volunteer was allegedly struck but not injured. Police did not make an arrest in that case.
