Manchester Police responded to 153 Dave St. on January 7 at 10:30 a.m. for a domestic assault in progress. The resulting three-hour standoff ended with the arrest of Alame Simwerayi, 24, of Manchester. The home was occupied by five individuals to include Simwerayi’s four relatives and a non-family member.

Upon arrival, Officer Michael Dunlap observed a male and female standing inside of the entrance of the north end home. The officer approached the house and made contact with the two individuals. However, Simwerayi ignored his request to exit the home while he pulled the elderly female (a grandmother) into the house. The man and woman retreated back inside of the home and closed the door on the officer.

Police were able to make phone contact with a woman inside of the home. The female identified herself as Simwerayi’s 19-year-old sister. She advised the officers that her brother had broken into the home through a basement door. Once inside, he allegedly assaulted his sister with a glass bottle, causing a laceration to her foot.

Simwerayi then entered the living room of the house and allegedly threatened to kill everyone inside of the home. He then barricaded the doors of the residence and would not allow them to exit the home. His 29-year-old sister, 3-year-old nephew, mother and grandmother were inside of home with him. A 30-year old handicapped woman was also in the home at the time of the incident, police said.

Three of his family members were able to leave the residence after an hour of being trapped inside of the home after police negotiators worked at the scene. The Manchester Police SWAT team ultimately ended the nearly three hour stand-off by overpowering him as he stood near an open door. They were able to take him into custody after a brief struggle. He was transported to police headquarters.

Simwerayi was charged with burglary; five counts criminal restraint; simple assault; five counts criminal threatening; and resisting arrest. He appeared in the 9th Circuit Court on January 8, 2016.
