DERRY, NH — Community Caregivers is looking for short-term drivers to help a long-time Derry client make it to his critical post kidney transplant appointments at Mass General for several months starting sometime in August or early September.

This client is next on the list for a kidney transplant and could get the call any day now.

After his surgery and hospitalization, he will need rides to Boston twice a week for 6 to 8 weeks, once a week for another month, and then once every other week for a month.  After this time period, his appointments should be down to once a month.

It is anticipated that each visit will take 4 to 6 hours.

The dates are presently unknown and won’t be known until the transplant happens.

This client has a very limited support network and Caregivers would like to make this life-changing operation possible by helping him with his follow-up appointments. In our 31 years of operation, Community Caregivers has never had a client receive a kidney.

At this time we are looking for drivers who are willing to make the trip to Mass General.

Please contact us if you, or someone you know, would be willing to make this drive once, twice or multiples times during his post-surgery recovery.

Drives will be on weekdays, time unknown. We can be flexible and work with both drivers who are available to drive him down and wait OR drivers who are willing to help with one-way drives either to or from his appointments.

Please help us spread the word. Committing to even one trip for this client will go a long way toward meeting his need. We will expedite the orientation and screening process for any new interested volunteers.

Contact Transportation Coordinator Susanne Peace at susanne@comcaregivers.org or call 432-0877 ext. #2 Mon. – Fri. between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
