MANCHESTER, NH — A few months ago we initiated a book drive to collect gently used books. Thanks to the generosity of our community we were able to hold a day of reading in partnership with NEP House of Praise, and Pastor Mark Choate, who graciously allowed us to use the church.

School committee members Lisa Freeman and Mary Georges helped to coordinate the event and read to the children. We were joined by other community members who assisted the children in reading.

I continued to get calls from people who had books to donate, so we are hoping to have several more events.  Our intention is to make sure all children that are in need of books have access to them.  We also want to work with the parents, especially in our most underserved communities, to make them a part of reading to their children and engaging them in their education.

The next event is going to be held at the Beech Street School and community center at 10 a.m. on Saturday July 13.  We welcome all members of the community who want to be a part of this event, and especially our students, who are in need of books to read at home over the summer.
