CONCORD, NH – Investigators say they’re getting closer to identifying the bodies of four people found decades ago in the woods  – a woman and three young girls, at Bear Brook State Park.

A news conference held Nov. 17 included new sketches released by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Also released yesterday, a video (see above) by the center, detailing the case and progress so far.

They are urging anyone who may recognize the faces here to contact them.

According to authorities the first two bodies, of a woman and the oldest child, were found by a hunter in 1985 in Bear Brook State Park in Allenstown, inside an industrial barrel.  Two more children were found in 2000 by a State Police officer, also inside a barrel at the park, as the officer was there looking for additional clues in the case.

Investigators believe all four victims were killed sometime between 1980 and 1984.

Based on forensic evidence, investigators believe the woman and the two children who were her daughters lived in the region where their bodies were found, but the third girl likely came from the Dakotas or Nebraska, according to testing of their hair, teeth and bones. The two bodies found in 1985 indicted they suffered blunt-force trauma as cause of death. Investigators have yet to release a cause of death for the two young girls found in 2000.

Case researchers have determined that all four victims lived in the New Hampshire area before their deaths.

“We’ve actually never seen four unidentified bodies found together that remain unidentified after all these years,” said Carol Schweitzer, a senior NCMEC forensic specialist. “We are not giving up hope. We know that the friends and the family of these unidentified children are still alive.”
