City blizzard prep: Schools closed Tues., Wed., where to park for free, emergency shelter opening

FullSizeRender (1)MANCHESTER, NH – Please be advised the City of Manchester has made the following arrangements in preparation for the January Blizzard.

Snow Emergency: A snow emergency will be put into effect beginning this evening (Monday, January 26th) at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at 12 p.m.;

Overnight off-street parking: Overnight off-street parking will be available free of charge at the following locations:

  • Victory Parking Garage at 25 Vine Street between 6 p.m. Monday and 12 p.m. Wednesday.  Vehicles parking outside these times will be subject to parking fees of $.75 per hour.
  • Pearl Street Parking Lot on Orange Street between Pearl and Chestnut is also available between 6 p.m. Monday and 12 p.m. Wednesday.  Unauthorized vehicles in the lot outside of these times will be subject to parking tickets.
  • The Middle School at Parkside and Gossler Park School parking lots will be open for parking from 6 p.m. Monday Evening until 6 p.m. Wednesday evening.    Unauthorized vehicles in the lot outside of these times will be subject to towing.

Vehicles that are impounded will be stored at the City’s Vehicle Impoundment Area, located in Derryfield Park off of Bridge Street.  In order to recover an impounded vehicle, the owner will be required to present proof of ownership and make a payment of $110.00 in cash.  This must be done within 24 hours of the time when the vehicle was towed.  Vehicles not recovered within 24 hours will be subject to additional towing and storage charges.

MTA: Bus service for the city is expected to run as scheduled but please be advised there could be delays;

Emergency Homeless Shelter: The City will open the emergency homeless shelter at 351 Chestnut Street (the old police station) Monday, January 26, 2015 and Tuesday, January 27, 2015 from 5 p.m. 7:30 a.m.;

Manchester School District: The Manchester School District will be closed on Tuesday, January 27 and Wednesday, January 28;

City Operations: On Tuesday, January 26, 2015 the city will operate with essential personal only.  City Hall will be closed in addition to all other city departments (i.e. welfare, health, tax collector, city clerk, ordinance violations etc.)

Refuse Collection: Trash and recycling will not be collected on Tuesday, January 27, 2015. It is anticipated that collection will resume on Wednesday, January, 28, 2015.  (Please note: If your regular refuse collection day is Tuesday please place it curbside for collection on Wednesday.)

Manchester Public Library: The main branch of the city library (405 Pine Street) will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2015 and will re-open at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.  The West Side branch is regularly closed on Tuesday and will open for normal operating hours at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.
