Chimney fire forces evacuation at Homestead Restaurant in Merrimack

MERRIMACK, NH – Merrimack Fire and Rescue responded to the Homestead restaurant on DW Highway in Merrimack at approximately noon on March 17.

The restaurant was being evacuated of customers and employees upon their arrival and, according to employees at the scene, flames were coming down the chimney into the restaurant.
Merrimack Fire/Rescue reported an active chimney fire and gained access using ladders and the ladder truck to extinguish the fire.
According to Fire Chief Michael Currier the fire was contained to the chimney and fireplace. Originally there was concern about the fire extending in the historic building.
According to Chief Currier the building will be able to be reoccupied and open for business.
