UPDATE: 2 p.m. Students were returned to classrooms at about 1 p.m. One teacher and one student were treated for non life-threatening symptoms related to the fumes.

MANCHESTER, NH — On Friday November 18 at approximately 11:15 a.m., Manchester High School West was evacuated due to chemical odors.  Custodial staff working in the gymnasium used a chemical, which released an odor, which could be detected throughout the school.  Due to poor ventilation, some students reported being nauseous, having headaches and other minor side-effects.

Manchester Fire Department and American Medical Response Ambulance were immediately notified and responded accordingly. The Manchester Police will assist with the schools evacuating until the odor can be vented and cleared.

Several students were being treated at the school. The situation is under control and it is unknown what the estimated time frame is before students will return back to their classrooms.

All inquiries should be referred to the Manchester School District.
