Ever since we discovered that Thursdays are “cheap wing night” at The Farm Bar and Grille, we try to get there whenever we can – we being me and my hubby. For about $42 we enjoyed three varieties of wings and four drinks from the fall menu.

We went with the first two – Angry Apple Cider and Cider Draaaank. No complaints – both were tasty and full of apple goodness.

Our server, Justin Taylor Lang, greeted us with the usual complimentary corn bread and brought us an oil lamp for our outdoor table – repurposed from a spent Patron tequila bottle.

We asked to be seated outside, and were told that we were the first customers of the day for al fresco dining. Yes, there was a slight chill in the air, but we also know it’s only a matter of time before dining outside will not be possible – at least not without a shovel and some ice melt.

It ended up feeling like our private patio.

My personal favorite of all the wing varieties is the dry rub – it’s spicy enough, but not messy. We also usually go for an order of the traditional Buffalo wings and then whatever the weekly wing special du jour might be.

On our most recent visit, that meant an order of watermelon jalapeño, which my husband welcomed with open mouth. It was a little too avant-garde for me, but he had no trouble finishing all six wings on his own.

We had a great view of the action in the back room while we noshed – www.paintnite.com organizes bi-monthly paint nights at The Farm, and so we got to watch as about two-dozen sudden artists create minor masterpieces while sipping and socializing.

Thursday nights also feature karaoke, which is always a good time. In fact, that’s where we first met our server Justin, an aspiring singer, who steps up to the mike and brings the house down every chance he gets, once his Thursday shift ends.

Sometimes we just watch whatever local sporting event is playing on one of the many televisions. Other times we shoot darts between wing baskets. And sometimes we invite as many of our children and their friends that we can find to join us, because at 35 cents a wing, it’s really a great, cheap night out.

Manchester has more than its fair share of great eateries, each one with a special charm, gimmick or promo. If you’ve never tried The Farm, you should. And if you go on a Thursday, maybe we’ll see you there.

The Farm has three locations – two in New Hampshire and one in Massachusetts. They are known for their pulled pork, but you’ll find plenty of interesting menu items, whether you indulge in cheap wing night or go rogue.
