It’s Oct 10., 2017, here are some recent highlights from high school athletic programs at Manchester Central, Manchester Memorial, Manchester West, Trinity and the Derryfield School.
Central
After starting the season with ten wins and a draw to Memorial, the boys’ soccer team has lost its last three straight. They’ll seek to rebound with contests against Merrimack, Nashua South and Timberlane before entering the playoffs.
The football team continues to make its case for entry into the ranks of Division I’s elite programs, earning another win, this time a 42-36 victory in Dover.
Now comes the hard part, finishing the season against three teams that are definitely within the cream of the crop within Division I: Goffstown, Winnacunnet and defending champion Bedford. At 6-1, they’re tied with Goffstown atop the Division I North Conference standings.
Memorial
In contrast to Central, the football team continues to struggle at Memorial, while the boys’ soccer team is rebounding after a poor start, earning impressive wins against Spaulding and Winnacunnet.
Much like Central though, the girls’ volleyball team continues to find difficulty. After their loss last week against Bishop Guertin, the girls’ volleyball team stands at 1-12. In fact, Memorial’s only victory in girls’ volleyball this year came against the Little Green on Sept. 11, as the Crusaders took three of the nine sets they’ve scored so far this season. Central still has not won a single set in their contests, let alone won a game.
West
The Blue Knights football season has also been a difficult one, as West couldn’t follow their first victory of the year with a second one against a visiting Souhegan.
Instead, the Sabers easily recorded a 35-0 victory, continuing their push toward a Division II playoff berth.
West’s other teams fared poorly as well, with the boys’ and girls’ both dropping a pair of contests to Pelham and Windham.
Trinity
The boys’ soccer team recorded a 1-0 victory against Pelham to give the Pioneers their second victory of the year.
Derryfield
With the regular season over, the boys’ golf team heads into state tournament season with the best combined record in Division III. They send seven golfers to Division III State Championships this week.
Derryfield also remains at the top of the Division III boys’ soccer standings, remaining undefeated after an 11-0 victory against Hillsboro-Deering and 8-0 victory against Mascenic this week.
Their last regular season games are at home against Gilford this Thursday and Monadnock on Oct. 20.
