Kyle Davis, left, and Robb Curry, partners in life and co-owners of Madear’s restaurant on Hanover Street, are planning a series of block parties to bring the community together in the heart of the city’s Cultural District.

MANCHESTER, NH – What better way to get to know the people who want your vote than to settle in with them for a good old-fashioned pre-election block party!

Robb Curry and Kyle Davis of Madear’s restaurant on Hanover Street decided to make something happen after talking with one of their regular guests, Nicole Klein, who happens to be running for State Rep in Ward 4.

“We offered to help her say hello.  She came up with the idea and we agreed, because we are sure we aren’t the only ones who feel like there are tons of new and old names … when it comes to New Hampshire’s primary,” Curry says.

Perhaps his southern roots are showing, but being neighborly is something that comes naturally to Curry, who says a block party is one small way to help neighbors make those connections. On Sept. 2 everyone’s invited, no matter where their ward boundaries are, to attend a Candidate Meet-n-Greet for residents – in particular – residents of Wards 3, 4, and 5. Come on down to mix, mingle and talk about the issues from 12 to 2 p.m., and treat yourself to some delicious brunch, cajun-style.

Klein will be there, along with her campaigning partner and fellow Ward 4 candidate for State Rep, Don Bouchard, as well as  Ward 5/District 12 husband-and-wife candidates, incumbent State Rep. Amanda Bouldin and Andrew Bouldin. Klein is hoping any other candidates available will stop in as well.

But that’s not all.

Curry and Davis have been planning a series of three additional themed block parties in the heart of the city’s Cultural District – one each in September, October and November, with the intention of encouraging community expansion in the cultural sector of the city.

All block parties are free of charge but do require tickets which will be available online through Eventbrite or from a fellow supporting organization. The block parties will take place on Hanover Street between Pine and Union streets.  The time of each party is 4- 8 p.m. In addition to the outdoor dining provided by Madear’s, fellow Hanover Street eateries Restoration Cafe and Antojitos Colombanios will be joining in. KelleyStelling Contemporary art gallery, normally closed on Saturdays, will be open for viewing.  Bark City and Canine Commitment of New England will join forces to bring some loving pups to adopt and play. Doublemidnight Comics is also partnering on events offering specials in conjunction with the annual Granite State Comicon, which is happening Sept. 8-9 at the Manchester Downtown Hotel.
