MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police recognized Eva Castillo on Sept. 6 during a brief ceremony at the Manchester Police Department, for her service as a Manchester Police Commissioner.

During their remarks on the occasion, Mayor Ted Gatsas and Chief Nick Willard both spoke of Castillo’s dedication to many local causes, and her advocacy work as a community organizer.

Board of Commissioners Chairman Scott Spradling said Castillo’s level of dedication will be hard to replicate.

“It’s been an honor to serve on the commission with Eva. Never have I seen someone more passionately advocate on behalf of her constituents while ensuring challenges and difficult situations are greeted with a calm demeanor and practical solutions,” Spradling said.  “Eva leaves a void on the Commission that won’t be easily replaced.  I’m happy to hear she promises to remain part of our dialogue about public safety.  Eva is a gem.”

Castillo, who served from 2011 – 2017,  said she will continue to serve as chair of the Community Advisory Board and coordinate the Youth Leadership Academy.

“It has been a very positive experience to see police work from the inside, and I now understand more fully how our police department works,” Castillo said. “I also got to appreciate them as people, not only as officers. They have gained my respect and admiration. I intend to continue being involved as much as I can,” Castillo said.

A new commissioner will be nominated and brought before the Board of Aldermen for approval in the coming weeks, Spradling said.
