NASHUA, NH – A carjacking in downtown Nashua resulted in a high-speed crash on the Everett Turnpike April 15 that involved eight vehicles and shut down northbound traffic for more than two hours. New Hampshire State Police arrested Jonathan J. Calvin, 31, of Nashua, based on the following narrative.

At approximately 2:20 p.m. Nashua Police Department received information about a car-jacking on Main Street. Moments later the vehicle identified in the car-jacking crashed on the Everett Turnpike  between exits 4 and 5.

Police said the carjacking occurred when a woman tried to assist Calvin, and upon doing so, Calvin assaulted and stabbed her, then stole her car and fled the scene. Officers from Nashua Police Department initiated a pursuit as the stolen vehicle headed southbound into the State of Massachusetts where Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police identified the vehicle and attempted to stop it as well. Calvin reversed direction and was traveling northbound on the Everett Turnpike back into New Hampshire where he caused an eight-vehicle collision in the immediate area of Exit 4 in Nashua. Calvin was ejected from his vehicle and fought with officers from the Nashua Police Department and Troopers from the NH State Police as they attempted to take him into custody.

Calvin faces multiple charges from both the Nashua and New Hampshire State Police Departments.

Of the eight vehicles involved in the collision, three people  were transported to area hospitals for treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The F.E. Everett Turnpike northbound in the area of exit 4 was closed for approximately 2 ½ hours as traffic was diverted off the exit 4 northbound off-ramp. The New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Unit is conducting the accident investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact TFC Michael Pelletier at 603-223- 8699.

Anyone with information about the car-jacking and subsequent assault on the F.E. Everett Turnpike is requested to contact Detective Sergeant Marc Beaudoin of the NH State Police – Troop B at 603-223-8678.

Police did not have a booking photo available of Calvin.
