First Responders use ‘Jaws of Life’ to cut through wreckage/Vimeo.
MANCHESTER, NH – A single-vehicle crash on Bridge Street Extension Thursday trapped the driver in his vehicle, requiring the use of the “jaws of life” to free him from the wreckage.
At approximately 4:23 p.m. Manchester Fire personnel, along with AMR and Manchester Police were dispatched to the crash, at Bridge Street Extension and Robinson Street, reported initially as a rollover with entrapment.
The driver was conscious when crews arrived but injured and trapped behind the wheel. Firefighters worked for several minutes to cut through the doors and support column of the Volkswagen.
After about 15 minutes the driver was freed from the wreckage and transported to the Elliot hospital with what appeared to be multiple injuries.
The vehicle was traveling east on Bridge Street Extension and left the roadway, striking rocks and hitting the tree on the passenger’s side of the vehicle.
No other information was immediately available.
