Busy weekend included stabbing, purse-snatching, armed robbery at Cumby’s

MANCHESTER, NH – Manchester Police officers responded to a number of calls over the weekend including, a stabbing, a purse-snatching and an armed robbery.

March 11

A Queen City man allegedly stabbed another man inside of his West Side apartment on March 11. Multiple officers responded to 558 Montgomery St. at 6:05 p.m. for an altercation involving Richard Giberson, his caretaker, and several other individuals

Giberson, 63, of Manchester, allegedly engaged in a verbal confrontation with his live-in caretaker, Melissa Miller, 37. According to Miller, Giberson was intoxicated and grew extremely agitated and annoyed after falling on his laptop computer. He allegedly grabbed a kitchen knife and threw it at Miller, which did not strike her.

Miller called two friends, Christopher Taylor, 40, the father of her child, and Matthew Bell, 33, to assist with Giberson. Giberson allegedly went after Bell with a knife, but was tackled to the ground. The struggle continued on the ground even though Giberson refused to relinquish the knife. Giberson stabbed Taylor in the arm with the knife before they were able to subdue him.

Taylor sustained a non-life threatening laceration to his upper arm and received medical treatment. Giberson allegedly made repeated threats to everyone in the room. He was taken into custody once Manchester officers arrived on scene.

Giberson will appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on March 14, 2016. He was charged with first-degree assault (felony); criminal threatening (felony); falsifying physical evidence (felony); criminal mischief (misdemeanor); simple assault (misdemeanor); and preventative detention.

Also on March 11, an armed robbery occurred at Cumberland Farm, 108 Webster St.,  at approximately 10:40 p.m. The clerk, Patricia Stone, 25, of Manchester, told police a white male entered the store and demanded cash. He was allegedly armed with a knife and fled the store with cash. The robber was described as approximately 5-foot-5  inches tall, average build, facial hair and was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt with tan pants and dark-colored sneakers.

March 12

On Saturday March 12, at approximately 5:25 p.m. Cassandra Hurd, 27, of Derry, was leaving the Union Street Market when an unknown male ran up to her and grabbed her purse from her hands. The assailant was described as a white male, approximately 5-foot-9 inches tall, 130 pounds, early 20s with a goatee-style beard, brown hair and was last seen wearing a tank top and light-colored jeans.

Responding officers located the victim’s purse a short time later and determined nothing was missing from her wallet. Detectives are following up on the case.
