WORCESTER, Mass. – Southern New Hampshire University overcame an early deficit on Friday to notch a 3-2 ice hockey victory over Assumption.

Phillips Andover standout Dante Maribito recorded the game’s first goal for the Greyhounds, with Matt Damelio putting SNHU at a two-goal deficit just seconds before the first intermission.

But the Penmen bounced back in the second period, with freshman Jake Cox cutting the lead in half 1:52 into second frame, and fellow freshman Charlie Davis evening things up 6:51 into the period.

Assistant captain Brett Strawn put SNHU in the lead for good halfway through the second period, with goaltender J.T. Kossakowski shutting down Assumption for the rest of the contest.

Kossakowski finished with 47 saves while Strawn’s goals puts him at seven points in seven games played so far this season.

The win puts SNHU within a point Saint Anselm for the Northeast-10 lead, with Saint Anselm putting up a 4-2 win against Post on Friday.

Both SNHU and Saint Anselm will face their respective opponents again on Saturday night, with SNHU’s puck drop at 6:05 p.m. and Saint Anselm’s at 7:45 p.m.
