MANCHESTER, NH – Police have recovered a skimming device from a St. Mary’s Bank ATM on the city’s West Side.

On April 10 police were alerted by a customer of suspicious activity. At about 4 p.m. the customer used the ATM, located at 200 McGregor Street, when she noticed a newer model sedan parked nearby. She told police she saw three men seated in the vehicle, which was parked in the bank parking lot.

She noticed the white sedan pull up to the ATM as soon as she completed her transaction. One of the occupants began “tampering” with the machine, so she contacted police. Officer Andrew Choi responded and determined the ATM had been tampered with.

Detective Neil Penttinen arrived on scene and disabled the electronic skimming device. The device typically utilizes a pin hole camera which reads the user’s pin number. It also contains batteries and a SIM card, which records the card numbers and account associated with the user.

St. Mary’s management team was notified.  It is unknown if anyone was adversely affected by the scam. The Manchester Police Department would like to remind citizens to always be aware of your surroundings and if you see something, please report it.
