NH Senate sig

The session is over. On the last day the House and Senate passed HB1000, a piece of legislation that provides $1.5 million to the city of Manchester to make grants to fight the drug problem. A number of other bills that deal with this problem and treatment for those who want and need it have been signed into law.

I attended the graduation ceremony at Goffstown High School and was happy to see a number of students wearing their New Hampshire Scholar medals. New Hampshire Scholars is a program created by the Department of Education and the New Hampshire College and University Council encouraging more math, more science, and a stronger academic program to enhance academic performance.

We must continue to strive to provide more challenging programs to our students. Almost all secondary schools in the state have joined the program. We need every school to participate and to provide more rigorous challenges to our young people.
