MANCHESTER, NH — Andre A. “Andy” Martel, 70, of Manchester, died December 22, 2016 at Catholic Medical Center.
He was born in Manchester December 16, 1946 to Gerard J. Martel and Simonne (Beliveau) Binette. He was a graduate of Southern NH University.
Andy worked as a worldwide business material manager for Digital Equipment Corp. for many years. For the past year he had worked part-time for the City of Manchester.
He served many years as a State Representative in the NH House of Representatives as well as a State Senator in the NH State Senate. He served on various committees including Health and Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committees, the American Legislative Exchange Council and the National Council of State Legislators.
Andy chaired the Save Catholic Medical Center Community Action Group. He had been a member of Children and Family Law, the Association for Operations Management, the Richelieu Club and the National Republican Leadership Association. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Board of Directors for the Heartland Institute, American Cancer Society and the Senior Auditors Society. He had also served as Clerk for the Canadian Trade Council in NH and was a member of L’Association Canado Americaine.
He leaves his wife of 49 years, Simone (Leclerc) Martel of Manchester; five children, John Martel and his companion, Lonnie Rutledge, of Concord; Steven Martel of Manchester; Philip Martel and his fiancée, Stacy Delsignor, of Manchester; Matthew Martel and his wife, Ashley; and Lauren Stibs and her husband, Jacob, of Manchester; six grandchildren, Ashley, Tiffany, Dakota, Jonathan, Mackenzie and Ryleigh; a sister, Sr. Rita Martel, PM of Methuen, MA; nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 26, 2016 at Lambert Funeral Home & Crematory, 1799 Elm St., Manchester.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Church, 14 Elm St., Manchester, NH. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery, 474 Goffstown Rd., Manchester, NH
