Alleged robber stopped by customer, clerk, after taking money from register at Crosstown Variety

MANCHESTER, NH – Samuel Robie, 32 , listed as homeless. was arrested Jan. 17, charged with robbery following an incident at Crosstown Variety, 270 Amory St.

Police say on Saturday just before 11 p.m. a report of an unarmed robbery at the convenience store came in. Police arrived to the store to find that the robbery suspect, identified as Robie, being restrained in the parking lot by the store clerk and a customer.

The clerk told police that Robie entered the store and was behaving suspiciously. When the clerk opened the cash register, Robie allegedly reached over the counter and attempted to grab money from the register. The clerk struggled with Robie, but Robie broke free and tried to run from the store with the cash.

A customer in the store at the time, identified by police as Joseph Nutt of Manchester, heard the struggle and ran to aid the clerk. Robie exited the store but Nutt was able to catch up with Robie and hold him there, assisted by the clerk, until police arrived.

Police said Robie refused to speak with the bail commissioner and was sent to Valley Street Jail. He was charged with  robbery.
