NASHUA, N.H. – Emily Ahern picked up a hat trick as the Little Green of Central picked up their second field hockey victory of the year on Wednesday night after vanquishing Nashua North, 4-0.
Ahern picked up her first goal five minutes into the first half, adding another in the final few minutes before the break.
The hat trick came with just four seconds left, a few minutes after Cat Jones made it 3-0 for the Little Green.
Manchester Central Head Coach Bill Larkins praised Ahern’s ability to fill in for injured playmaker Emma Dudley, believing that it’s been the first hat trick for Central field hockey in several years.
“Emily was concerned about stepping into that role and we were concerned about who would generate offense and Emily stepped right into that role and kept the forward momentum every time she got the ball,”
Larkins also praised his team’s back line, with North finding few opportunities to add to the two goals they’ve scored all season, as Central had a clear control of possession from beginning to end.
Ahern is now at five goals on the year, and more may be coming if she can maintain the level of confidence
“I think I’m starting to find my place on the team, and I think I can start helping offensively more,” she said.
The win (2-4-1) was Central’s second this week against a Nashua team, a trend they will look to continue on Saturday at noon against Dover.
