AG confirms 6 NH deaths in 2017 due to carfentanil

It can take 2 to 3 months to receive toxicology results to determine the cause of an overdose death.

CONCORD, NH – Attorney General Gordon MacDonald has released the latest drug death data from the Chief Medical Examiner’s office, which confirms six deaths related to the use of carfentanil so far in 2017.

“These overdose deaths are the subject of ongoing investigations. To protect the integrity of those investigations, no further details of these deaths will be released at this time,” MacDonald said in the update.

MacDonald says his priority is to “stop the distribution of this deadly drug,” and will prosecute “to the fullest extent of the law” those found guilty in carfentanil-related crimes.

Five carfentanil deaths were tabulated as of  May 17. Since the Attorney General’s statement issued May 22, one more confirmed carfentanil death as been added, totaling six.
