MANCHESTER, NH — It’s Chinese New Year, year of the rooster, and A&E Roastery in Manchester is celebrating in style Jan. 28 with a lantern lighting ceremony, beginning at 5 p.m.

According to Chinese astrology, each year is also associated with one of five unique elements as well as an animal – gold (metal), wood, water, fire or earth. The element, combined with the zodiac animal, determine the kind of year it’s going to be. This year is a Fire Rooster Year, and so those born in 2017 are Fire Roosters. The last Fire Rooster Year was 1957.

Some noteworthy celebrity Roosters include:

  • Bob Marley (born 6 February 1945), a Wood Rooster.
  • Jennifer Aniston (born February 11, 1969), an Earth Rooster.
  • Jennifer Lopez (born July 24, 1969), an Earth Rooster.
  • Britney Spears (born December 2, 1981), a Gold Rooster.

Stop by A&E, located at Brady Sullivan Plaza, 1000 Elm St., on Saturday and light a lantern or luminary in honor of a loved one or memory. Walk through the courtyard and take a moment to reflect.

Donations are being accepted on behalf of the Manchester Boys and Girls Club.
