Undoing racism workshop April 26-28 at the YWCA.

MANCHESTER, NH – Registration is open for a 2½-day workshop at the YWCA hosted by Ujima Collective, with a focus on understanding systemic racism in our community.

Peoples Institute for Survival and Beyond (PISAB) will facilitate the Undoing Racism Workshop, which runs from April 26 – 28, 2018 at the YWCA NH.

Space is limited, but there are still some slots available for this powerful workshop, aimed at helping attendees understand what racism is, where it comes from, how it functions, why it persists. and how it can be undone. The workshops utilize a systemic approach that emphasizes learning from history, developing leadership, maintaining accountability to communities, creating networks, undoing internalized racial oppression, and understanding the role of organizational gate-keeping as a mechanism for perpetuating racism.

This is an ideal session for all members of the community, especially teachers, mental health workers and young people, according to Brenda Lett, of New Hampshire Black Women Health Project and Ujima Collective.

“Those are the people who are in touch with the systemic racism – it’s an institutional quagmire we have to take apart, piece by piece, because it’s so entrenched in our culture and community,” says Lett.

Manchester-based Ujima Collective is involved with a number of activities, organizations and initiatives that seek to address issues of power and privilege from a positive perspective. Promoting the common good by tackling issues of unfairness and inequity, whether they be based on contemporary institutional biases and/or historical social practices. And the YWCA’s overarching mission is to eliminate racism and empower women.

The community is invited to join in this work to create a better world for the next generation by Undoing Racism and supporting the justice movement.

The YWCA – whose mission is to eliminate racism and empower women – is located at 72 Concord St. in Manchester. Cost of the workshop is $300 for organizations, and $250 for individuals. Limited space and scholarships are available. Email ujima@netzero.com for more information or to request a registration form.
