MANCHESTER, NH – The public is invited to attend the 8th Annual Family Literacy Night, a celebration of student achievement in the Manchester School District for new American families.
The event will be held at McLaughlin Middle School, 290 South Mammoth Road from 4-6 p.m.
Presentations will include music and dance, poetry and plays, and special recognition of student successes, including a slideshow of various school activities throughout the year.
“The event is in honor of our newly arrived – and some not so newly arrived – students and their families who are not only accomplishing their grade level goals, but also learning a new language, English,” said Amadou Hamady, a social worker for the Manchester School District, who helps organize the event as part of the International Institute of New England.
“We celebrate these students and give them a venue to share some of the things they have learned, singing, dancing, poetry reading to name a few. We complete the presentations with a small social hour and enjoy some traditional foods and great company,” Hamadou said.
Food and refreshments will be served. There will also be parent information and sign-ups for available summer programs, as well as information tables featuring various community support services. Transportation will be available to McLaughlin for those who need it.
