5K and MS Walk: How to navigate this weekend’s 5K and Walk-a-Thon

MPD offers some logistical tips on navigating two April 9 events that may cause traffic delays, congestion and road closures.

Screen Shot 2017 04 06 at 6.35.39 PMThe Annual Bagels and Biscuits 5K will begin Saturday at the Derryfield Park at 9 a.m. The race will exit the park via Circular Drive and Reservoir Avenue and head into the neighborhood north of Bridge Street and then return to the park, again via Circular Drive and Reservoir Ave.

Although the course is considered “open” to traffic there will be a few road closures in key locations to ensure that the route is safe for the runners. Both Circular Drive and Reservoir Avenue will be closed during the race and traffic on Belmont Street will be restricted from entering off of Bridge Street as well as from Smyth Road. Drivers in this area are urged to use caution if they encounter runners in the roadway.

Screen Shot 2017 04 06 at 6.39.59 PMThe Annual Multiple Sclerosis Society Walk to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Greater New England begins at Arms Park at 10 a.m. The walk will exit the park via Commercial Street and head South to Granite Street, Granite Street East to Elm Street, Elm Street North to Clarke Street, Clarke Street East to Union Street, Union Street North to Lexington Street, Lexington Street West to N. Bay Street, N. Bay Street North to Bennington Street, Bennington Street West to River Road, River Road/Canal Street South to Commercial Street, Commercial Street back to Arms Park.

Although the course is considered “open” to traffic there may be a few road closures in key locations to ensure that the route is safe for the walkers. Drivers in this area are urged to use caution if they encounter walkers in the roadway.
