HOOKSETT, NH – On May 17 Hooksett Fire received calls for kayakers who had been swept down the Merrimack River to the system which protects the dam area. The current was incredibly swift from the recent rains and rescuers couldn’t safely access the five kayakers. Multiple surrounding towns were called to launch boats. Three of the five were initially rescued, but the current was too swift for the boats on scene.

Manchester Fire responded with Rescue 1 and launched two larger boats. The boats were able to pluck the kayakers from the water and pull them into the boat. AMR ambulance was on scene and did evaluations on all kayakers.
