BEDFORD, NH — Bedford Police Department is investigating a serious five-vehicle  crash that injured four and left Route 101  closed during the morning commute on Aug. 4.

Bedford Police and Fire responded to Route 101 near the Hill-Brook Motel at 7:47 a.m. after receiving multiple reports of a motor vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation indicates that a black Jeep was traveling eastbound on 101 when it crossed the double-yellow line and grazed a parcel truck before striking three other vehicles, all in the westbound lane.

The driver of the parcel truck was not injured, but the drivers of all four other vehicles were injured and transported to Elliot Hospital in Manchester. One of the drivers of the westbound vehicles sustained serious injuries.

The roadway was closed for approximately 2½ hours in both directions, reopening at 10:30 a.m.

The crash is under investigation by the Bedford Police Department Technical Accident Reconstruction Team. Bedford Police are asking that any witnesses to the collision call 603-472-5113.
