SALEM, NH — State Police are seeking information in connection with a serious accident on Interstate 93 early Nov. 8 that left three people hospitalized with serious injuries.

At approximately 5:33 a.m. State Police from Troop B were notified of a rollover accident on I-93 in Salem, just north of the Massachusetts state line.

Troopers were assisted by Salem Police officers, who responded to the scene and  where they found a 2003 red Ford Expedition on its roof down the embankment off of the right travel lane. It was determined the vehicle had three occupants, all of whom sustained life-threatening injuries.

The driver was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) helicopter. One passenger was transported by ground to Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, Mass., and then flown to Tufts Medical Center in Boston. Another passenger was originally transported by ground to the Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Mass., then later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital. The names of the injured are currently being withheld until proper notification can be made to next of kin.

The preliminary investigation suggests the Expedition was traveling southbound on Interstate 93 and, for unknown reasons at this time, the driver lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway traveling through several feet of guardrail before overturning multiple times and coming to rest on its roof in a cluster of trees down the embankment.

Assisting on scene were members of the New Hampshire State Police Troop B Barracks, Salem Police Department, members of both the Pelham / Salem Fire Departments and EMS crews, DHART Critical Care Medical Flight Crew, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.

At this time the crash investigation is being handled by the State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit (C.A.R. Unit) with assistance by the Troop B, Barracks. Anyone that may have further information related to this crash please contact Trooper First Class Michael J. Pelletier (603) 223-8699 or preferably by email at michael.pelletier@dos.nh.gov.
