MANCHESTER, NH – The Way Home has received a $25,000 grant from the Eastern Bank Foundation, which will provide important facility improvements and upgrades across the agency’s housing units.

“This generous donation will have a profound impact on our organization says Mary Sliney, Executive Director, The Way Home.  “We greatly appreciate Eastern Bank’s kind support of our cause.”

“Nonprofits provide services essential to building thriving communities, yet their growth is stymied far too often. We realized this as an area where we could help to do good and established our Partnership Grant program to specifically fund capital needs,” said Bob Rivers, Chair and CEO of Eastern Bank. “Nonprofits are no different than for profit businesses in that they require funding to grow, but it can be especially challenging for nonprofits to secure it. We’re proud to support and congratulate the 2018 Partnership Grant recipients.”

Rivers noted that since 1999, on average, Eastern Bank has given 10 percent of its net income – seven times the national average – to charity each year, which now totals over $110 million. The Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation has several different grant-making programs that support the Bank’s culture rooted in community service and the pursuit of social justice and opportunity for all. The Foundation’s Partnership Grant program specifically funds nonprofit capital needs. The Way Home is among 10 nonprofits each receiving a $25,000 Partnership Grant in 2018. In total, Eastern is granting $250,000 in Partnership Grants this year to nonprofits in communities from New Hampshire to Cape Cod and throughout the North Shore, South Shore, Merrimack Valley, MetroWest and Greater Boston.

In 2017, The Way Home provided housing counseling for 610 households benefiting over 1300 individuals, including 498 children. “We also helped 192 households secure apartments pre-inspected to meet health and safety standards with additional assistance provided to families with children.  By providing a healthier foundation for kids and giving parents educational tools and resources, we are helping build a better foundation and brighter future for kids,” Sliney said.

Sliney added that grant from Eastern Bank will fund renovations and upgrades to The Way Home’s housing units across Greater Manchester.

About The Way Home

Now celebrating our 30th year of community service, The Way Home is a non-profit dedicated to helping low-income households obtain and sustain safe, affordable housing throughout the state of New Hampshire.  Since 1988, we have assisted more than 21,000 homeless and high-risk families, individuals, veterans and special needs clients with their housing needs.

Our Mission and Vision statements speak of creatively helping those with the fewest resources. When designing our programs, The Way Home looks first to empower our clients in need. Over the past three decades, this has meant helping them increase their resourcefulness by providing more financial literacy classes, housing counseling and coaching, steps to success coaching, healthy home education, landlord/tenant rights and other life skills classes.

Our Vision is to continue as an innovative, grassroots organization committed to creatively helping those with the least resources increase access, raise hope, and build self-esteem.  We believe in implementing a “housing first” approach, which provides secure housing with the support they need to make a difference in their lives.
