MANCHESTER, NH – Two men were arrested on prowling charges after calls came in reporting that they were seen checking car door handles in a West Side neighborhood.
Ahmed Ali, 19, and Abdikadir Khamis, 21, both of Manchester, were charged with criminal trespassing, prowling and possession of a controlled drug, believed to be cocaine.
At approximately 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 officers with the Manchester Police Patrol Division, along with assistance from the Community Policing Division, located two men later identified as Ali and Khamis in the area of Valley West Way.
One of the callers who reported the suspicious activity told police they observed the men enter a vehicle on Parker Street. The caller claimed they were deterred by a passing motor vehicle, so they exited the car and walked toward Winter Street and Granite Street.
Officers Brian Karoul and Tony Battistelli allegedly observed the two men check on multiple car doors in the area of Valley West Way. They also witnessed the two men enter the common mailbox area of the Valley West Way condominium complex before walking toward 454 Bartlett St. Police say the men opened the door of a Chevy Malibu parked in front of the 454 Bartlett St., which prompted the car alarm to sound. The two fled on foot and ran toward Amory Street.
The officers detained the men on Bartlett Street where they were identified, arrested and transported to the Manchester Police Department. A search of the men prior to arrest revealed both were in possession of a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine, police say.
Khamis was charged with possession of a controlled drug, criminal trespassing and prowling.
Ali was charged with possession of a controlled drug, criminal trespassing and prowling. He was also charged with several warrants. Both men were scheduled to appear in the 9th Circuit Court-Manchester on Dec. 8.
