MANCHESTER, NH — Just before 7 p.m. on Tuesday fire crews were dispatched to 85 Dartmouth St. for what quickly escalated to a 2-alarm fire.
Exterior porches extended to the rear section of the building, Fire companies encountered heavy heat conditions on the second floor and heavy fire from the rear of the building extending into the attic.
A second alarm brought additional manpower resources to the fire. Two truck companies used master streams to combat heavy fire in the rear section and roof section.
Six hand lines were placed in the building for fire extinguishment and control. A search was conducted and, after an all-clear, extensive overhaul was needed to extinguish all fire.
A total of 37 firefighters were on scene with 7 Engines, 2 Ladder Trucks and one Rescue Company.
District Chief All Poulin estimated 75 percent of the building sustained heavy fire damage.
