12 NH bakeries celebrate ‘Pie Day’ on 3/14 with a professional pie competition

MANCHESTER, NH –  Studio 550 ART CENTER, 550 Elm St., is hosting a pie competition between 12 professional New Hampshire bakeries to celebrate actual Pi Day on Saturday, March 14, 2015 (3.14.15), from 3 – 6 p.m..

The pie categories will be Fruit, Cream, and Creative. Bakeries choose which categories they would like to compete in. Ticket holders may sample all pies and vote for the People’s Choice award in each category.

There will also be an official panel of judges to rank the pies.  The judges are: Susan Laughlin, Food Writer for NH Magazine; Helen Ryba, Host and Producer of  “The Chef’s Plate”; and Richard Tango-Lowy, Vice Chair of the Granite State Quality Council and Master Chocolatier of Dancing Lion Chocolates.

Currently, the competitors are The Bakeshop on Kelly Street, Finesse Pastries, Wicked Good Bakery, The Crust and Crumb, Nomad Bakery, Just Like Mom’s Pastries, Black Forest Café, Saxy Chef LLC, Baked Downtown, Mamma’s Pies, Sweet Melissa’s Kitchen, and the Roundabout Diner and Lounge. As other bakeries sign up to compete, they will be listed on the Studio 550 Facebook event page.

Tickets are available on the Studio 550 website, over the phone or in person at Studio 550. Tickets are $20 for adults. Tickets are discounted to $15 for children 13 and under or for students with a college ID. Tickets will cost $25 the day of the event.

According to www.piday.org, Pi Day is celebrated on March 14  around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159.
