1 dead after truck crashes into Page Street Market

MANCHESTER, NH  — A city man died from injuries sustained in a crash at the intersection of Page and Hanover streets Saturday.

On May 26, 2018 at approximately 2:45 p.m. Manchester police officers responded to the accident scene. The preliminary investigation revealed that a White Ford Ranger traveling east on Hanover Street went through a red light and collided with a Ford Escape traveling north on Page Street. The force of the initial collision resulted in the Ford Ranger crashing into the Page Street Market, located at 1036 Hanover St., and the Ford Escape crashing into a Dodge Caravan, which was facing west and stopped at the traffic light.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, identified at Matthew McGrath, 76, of Auburn, was transported to an area hospital, where he was later pronounced as dead. The driver of the Ford Escape, Arthur Skiathits, 52, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Dodge Caravan, Robert Ames, 58, was not injured.

The store owner said he had recently added a high chair and play pen near the windows inside the store, although they were not in use at the time of the accident.

This incident remains under investigation by the Manchester Police Traffic Unit Collision Reconstruction and Analysis team. Anyone with information regarding this crash is asked to contact the Manchester Police Department at 603-668-8711.
