1 charged, 2 others sought in assault on Belmont Street, ‘not random,’ police say

MANCHESTER, NH – Shortly after 9 p.m. on June 17 Manchester Police responded to the intersection of Belmont and Massabesic streets for a report of an assault.

Officers made contact with the victim who was visibly bruised and had serious abrasions and contusions on his head, face and body. He told police he was in a bedroom of a Belmont Street apartment when he heard loud noises outside.  He said soon after, the door of the apartment was kicked in. He said a man hit him with a bat several times, and as he ran outside the assault continued. According to the victim, two other males were also involved, punching and kicking him. He also reported that during the attack, he was robbed.

Based on the investigation, police were able to locate and arrest Lester Saldana, 36, in connection with the incident. Police are still looking for two other assailants, both Hispanic males.  Police say this does not appear to be a random attack, and the public is not in danger.

Saldana will be in Manchester Circuit Court  June 18 for bail violations and theft by deception charges. He is also facing felonies in Hillsborough Superior Court North this afternoon for charges including criminal liability to first-degree assault, second-degree assault, robbery, burglary and falsifying physical evidence.
